First Step Programme

Ready to take that first step towards your future career? The First Step Programme is designed to give you the chance to discover what it's really like to be a Matheson lawyer, and to understand the path to becoming a solicitor in a leading internationally-focused law firm. 

This six-month programme is open to first and second year undergraduate students and promises to give you an opportunity to get to know Matheson and get first-hand exposure to the work we do and the exciting clients we work alongside. You will learn from established experts and have exceptional opportunities to develop and broaden your skills through tailored training and development sessions. 

We pride ourselves on being an inclusive community, and throughout the programme you will work closely with Matheson colleagues, and also develop strong relationships with your peers.  Our programme will support, encourage and enable you to develop your potential and help to guide you through the application processes for our summer intern and trainee lawyer programmes. 

What's Involved?

You will participate in a series of events to provide you with a meaningful insight into how a leading law firm operates and be fully sure of the career you have chosen.  Activities include:

• a firm insight day in May;
• a keynote seminar and networking session in August; and
• an exclusive partner Q&A session in October. 

From the moment you take your first step with us, we will support you to grow and develop the skills needed to excel in your career, give you the opportunity to learn as much as possible about our culture and who we are, and give you access to work directly with our experienced partner-led teams and engage with our market-leading clients.
