Matheson sponsor American Bar Association Employment Law International Midyear Meeting, Dublin 2017

Bryan Dunne and Niall Pelly, Employment Partners in the Matheson Employment, Pensions and Benefits Group, together with their team, welcome colleagues from the American Bar Association ("ABA"): Section of Labor and Employment Law to Dublin from May 7 – 11 for their 2017 International Midyear Meeting, which will involve a diverse series of keynotes and panels led by leading international employment law experts.

During the Midyear Meeting, hosted by the International Committee of the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law, Matheson Partner, Bryan Dunne, will speak on the changing employment landscape in Ireland and explore the institutions, laws, policies and practices of Irish employment law. Bryan will be joined by a panel of leading legal experts including: the Honorable Mary Laffoy, Justice of the Supreme Court of Ireland and Professor Michael Doherty, Maynooth University Department of Law, National University of Ireland. The panel will address topics such as the recent adoption of a comprehensive ‘New System’ for adjudicating workplace disputes, and major changes in laws governing union recognition, injunctions blocking executive terminations, and expansion of Ireland’s robust Equality Code and family / parenting protections.

Ms Justice Mary Laffoy will open the conference on the Monday, 8 May. Topics will include Brexit, anti-immigration efforts in the US, UK and EU, company relocations and restructurings, data protection, and cross-border employment with the final day of the conference being focused on talent and employment issues across a number of industry sectors including Pharma and Healthcare, Technology, Energy and Infrastructure. The conference is an exciting opportunity to meet and network with labor and employment legal experts from leading firms from over 20 different jurisdictions, during what is an interesting period of change both in Ireland and elsewhere, with significant global events impacting on the area of talent and employment.

Matheson Partner, Bryan Dunne has been a member of the ABA's International Labour and Employment Law section for over 15 years and is a co-author (with Blathnaid Evans of Matheson) of the Irish Chapter for the ABA's annual publication on International Labour and Employment Law. Bryan has presented at numerous ABA events in the US and Europe and was the European Chair of the ABA CLE teleconference training programme from 2006 to 2013.

Niall Pelly, Employment Partner, has substantial international experience, having worked at market-leading firms in London before joining Matheson. Niall also leads Matheson’s corporate immigration team, which assists clients in identifying and securing the most appropriate work permit for non-EEA employees. Niall is actively involved in the ABA, and has participated in a number of ABA meetings in Europe and the US - most recently delivering a presentation on caregiver’s rights at the ABA’s 2016 Annual Labor and Employment Law Conference in Chicago.
