Matheson Collaboration Fuels €40 Million Investment at Dublin Airport
Matheson advised CLH Aviación, SA (“CLH”) on its successful tender for the design, build and operation of new fuel farm tanks at Dublin Airport under a long term services concession agreement with dublin airport authority plc (“daa”). As part of the concession, CLH will invest €40 million to construct a new aviation fuel storage facility at the airport which will increase existing capacity six fold. CLH will also manage the fuel and the aviation fuel storage for 20 years under the concession agreement.
The CLH Group, which comprises Compañía Logística de Hidrocarburos and its subsidiary CLH Aviación, is the leading company in Spain for oil product transportation and storage and is one of the largest private companies in its sector at an international level. It has one of the largest, most efficient integrated oil product transportation and storage networks in the world, with over 4,000 km of oil pipelines and a wide storage capacity. The CLH Group has created a new company under the name of CLH Aviation Ireland to manage these infrastructures at Dublin Airport. The company is 100% owned by CLH Aviación.
According to CLH Group’s press release, Chief Executive Officer Jorge Lanza pointed out that “the transaction is an exciting challenge involving the operation and renovation of the fuel storage terminal of such an important airport as Dublin”.
The Matheson team for the transaction was led by partner Garret Farrelly, head of the Energy and Infrastructure Group.
“We are delighted to have been involved in this strategically important transaction for our international client CLH Aviación, Europe’s largest midstream oil terminalling business. The project with daa represents CLH Aviación’s first investment in Ireland and follows on from CLH Group’s recent international expansion in the United Kingdom, where they manage over 2,000 km of oil pipelines and 16 storage facilities, and in Oman, where they have established a major project involving the construction of oil pipelines and storage facilities,” remarked Garret.
Garret and his team were supported on the transaction by a number of Matheson’s specialist practice groups including Tax, Construction and Engineering, Employment, Commercial Real Estate, and Planning and Environmental. Transactions such as this demonstrate the strong cross-departmental offering the firm has which provides a premium service to clients.
Our mandate on this transaction by the CLH Group underscores once more that Matheson is the law firm of choice for internationally focused companies and financial institutions doing business in and from Ireland.
