Matheson has been named Irish Tax Firm of the Year by the International Tax Review. The firm was chosen from a shortlist, which included the country’s largest law and accounting firms. Turlough Galvin, head of Matheson’s tax practice, accepted the award at the annual International Tax Review European Awards ceremony in London last night.

The International Tax Review European Awards are widely recognised as one of the benchmarks for excellence in the field of international tax advice. Matheson was identified as Irish Tax Firm of the Year following comprehensive client and peer research, indicating outstanding performance in the tax law arena over the last 12 months.

Matheson has the largest tax team of any Irish law firm and represents many of the leading international companies and financial institutions doing business in and through Ireland. Matheson is also the only Irish law firm to have partner-level tax expertise on both coasts of the United States.

Among the transactions the group advised on over the last year was Eaton Corporation’s $11.4 billion acquisition of Cooper Industries, which was the largest M&A transaction in Ireland in 2012, according to Mergermarket.

Liam Quirke, Managing Partner of Matheson commented: “Our primary objective is to meet the Irish legal needs of international companies and financial institutions doing business in and through Ireland better than any other firm.  It is especially pleasing, therefore, to be acknowledged as the pre-eminent law firm in Ireland for tax by such a distinguished international publication as the International Tax Review.”
