Over 300 delegates joined the event featuring panel discussions and workshops by more than 60 experts and thoughtleaders in global capital markets, portfolio management, funds, banking, credit, and aviation finance. Partner and co-head of Matheson’s regulatory and investigations group Karen Reynolds was invited to welcome delegates at the welcome reception. Karen spoke about the changing face of financial services, and in particular financial services regulation, and how as service providers we must innovate to maintain our competitiveness. Karen was honoured to then introduce the evening’s keynote speaker Mr Justice Frank Clarke, the Chief Justice. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court referred to the opportunities for the development of the Irish Courts in view of Brexit, and has spoken publically about what the Irish legal system has to offer following the UK’s departure from the European Union, as the only common law jurisdiction in the EU27.

The Summit's activities continued on 3 October with panel discussions and masterclass workshops on issues such as Brexit, fintech regulation, and the outlook for key financial centres and financial services sectors. Partner, and head of Asset Management Tara Doyle was part of a panel which spoke about Regulatory Frameworks in Asset Management & Funds, in particular the distribution and marketing challenges post Brexit. The Panel was moderated by William Slattery, CEO of DST International Holdings, and other participants included former SEC Commissioner Dan Gallagher.

Partner and Head of Matheson’s Derivatives Group Christian Donagh spoke also on the professional services opportunities in capital markets, including the new ISDA Master Agreements. Christian was joined on his panel by Outgoing Chair of the Bar Council of Ireland Paul McGarry SC, and the discussion was moderated by Keith Boyfield of Keith Boyfield Associates.
