The first quarter has gotten off to a positive start, with ComReg issuing its final decision and guidance on spectrum trading in the RSPP bands. This now paves the way for parties to make more efficient use of their spectrum by entering into commercial spectrum trading arrangements to divest themselves of any spectrum which is not integral to their spectrum portfolio.
eircom’s appeal of ComReg’s decision to reject its universal service funding application has drawn ComReg into yet more litigation, with ComReg vowing to ‘fully defend the proceeding brought’.
Further developments towards consolidation in the Irish telecoms market with Three offering a number of concessions to secure approval for its proposed acquisition of O2 Ireland.
New legislation enacted to enable the Electricity Supply Board to use its physical electricity infrastructure for electronic communications purposes and roll-out of fibre broadband.
