Shane Hogan is a partner and Head of the Tax Department at Matheson.

He is a member of the firm’s International Business Group and US Business Group. Shane advises international corporations doing business in and from Ireland on all aspects of corporate tax. His main focus is in inward investment projects, cross border tax planning and corporate restructurings as well as mergers and acquisitions on an international and national level. Shane also advises on Irish stamp duty matters particularly in the context of global reorganisations.

Shane frequently publishes articles in leading tax journals and is co-author of the Irish Chapter of the IBFD’s publication on Transfer Pricing.

Shane was Chairman of the Irish branch of the International Fiscal Association from 2006 to 2010 and remains an active Committee member.

Shane is both a qualified solicitor and chartered accountant and is a member of the Law Society of Ireland, the International Bar Association, the Irish Taxation Institute and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.

Experience and Education

  • Shane is standing tax counsel to numerous international corporations in respect of their Irish operations. Tax is a sensitive matter and, accordingly, details of the restructuring projects on which Shane has advised cannot be detailed herein. However, recent transactions on which Shane and his team have advised include, in broad terms:
  • Advising Fortune 100 US corporations on group-wide international restructurings.
    Representation of numerous international corporations on their establishment in Ireland.
  • Substantial integration projects pre- and post-mergers and acquisitions for various international clients.
  • On-going strategic advice for a range of international corporations including in relation to cash and dividend repatriation strategies.
