At Matheson, we recognise that our success is directly tied to the skills, abilities and expertise of our people.  We design innovative professional development programmes that are focused on ensuring that each individual in the firm can meet their career objectives and we partner with leading institutions to help deliver these programmes. Two such initiatives are the Emerging Leaders Programme, focused on the development of our senior associates, and the Matheson Partner Development Programme, focused on supporting our newly promoted partners, including partners who have joined us from other firms. These programmes seek to support and develop the firm’s future and current leaders, and focus on honing participants’ practice management and people leadership skills.

2025 marks 10 years of a continuous and exclusive collaboration with Cambridge Judge Business School Executive Education.  The school has a reputation as a centre of rigorous, high impact thinking and transformative executive education, and is ranked #1 by the FT for academic research with impact.

As such, this collaboration has seen our programmes go from strength to strength, evolving each year to meet the needs of our people and the legal environment in which we operate. Since 2015, almost 200 Matheson lawyers have attended Judge Business School, and in excess of 75% of our 127 partners have attended either as participants or sponsors.

As Matheson celebrates its 200-year history as a leading Irish law firm in 2025, we are delighted to reach this milestone in the programmes’ growth.

Managing Partner, Michael Jackson commented:

“At Matheson, our people are central to everything that we do.  We pride ourselves on providing a first-class service to our clients, by anticipating their needs and delivering the best possible results to them.  Ongoing investment in the development of our people, using the most up to date management theory and practices, are critical to achieving this. A decade since the first cohort completed the programme, this comprehensive legal training and education has continued to evolve and deliver excellent results.  The ongoing evolution of the programmes reflects the strong partnership between Judge Business School and Matheson and the understanding, which has built up over the decade of interaction between us, of the areas of focus which lead to best results for our people and our clients.”

Mark Smith, Judge Business School, University of Cambridge stated:

“Over the last decade, our collaboration with Matheson has been a fantastic demonstration of integrating real-world legal challenges with our practitioner and academic insight.  It's been a privilege to witness the development of Matheson's next generation of leaders, who have fully engaged with the learning environment we have co-created.  We're looking forward to continuing and evolving this dynamic partnership in the years to come.”

Nicola White, Head of Learning & Development at Matheson said:

“At Matheson, we actively seek to facilitate the development and engagement of our people, allowing them to progress and expand their career within the firm.  Over the course of the past 10 years our learning and development team have worked closely with the Cambridge Judge Business School as well as with each of the firm’s practice areas to ensure that the programme remains relevant and innovative.”
