The Law Society of Ireland has today published its annual ranking of the number of practising certificates of the largest law firms in Ireland, placing Matheson as the largest law firm in the country with 327 practising solicitors.
Managing Partner of Matheson, Michael Jackson said: “I am delighted to see that the Law Society has ranked Matheson the largest law firm in Ireland in its publication this week of practising solicitor numbers in Ireland. This result reflects Matheson’s success in continuing to grow our market share in the past number of years in sectors which have continued to contribute to the growth of the Irish economy. Some areas of our business have, unsurprisingly, experienced the impact of the contraction in business sectors most significantly impacted by COVID-19, as the Irish law firm of choice for internationally focussed businesses, we have continued to see significant domestic and international activity across many sectors such as M&A, corporate restructuring, technology, life sciences, energy, financial services and dispute resolution. While some of this activity has been Brexit-related, most of it reflects Ireland’s continuing competitiveness as a jurisdiction from which to access global markets. The activity we see is a positive indicator for future employment prospects as international companies continue to expand their already significant footprint in Ireland, and contribute directly and indirectly to the local economies and communities in which they are located. We remain grateful to our clients for their ongoing partnership and support.”
He continued: “I would also like to sincerely thank everyone at Matheson for their commitment and quality of work throughout the continuing challenges of the pandemic; and for their professionalism and dedication in ensuring that our clients are serviced at the highest levels. As a firm, our commitment to the Matheson values - and to supporting our legal and business professionals to make meaningful contributions to our clients, each other and our society - has remained to the forefront at Matheson throughout the challenges of the pandemic, as it should.”
The Law Society of Ireland’s practising certificates figures, which were published on 5 February 2021, are based on practising certificates for the year ending 31 December 2020. The total number of practising certificates issued by the Law Society as at 31 December 2020 was 11,854. The Law Society’s league table may be accessed here.
