A Matheson team, led by Garret Farrelly, Head of Energy, Natural Resources and Utilities and Owen Collins, senior associate, advised Microsoft on its recently announced corporate power purchase agreements in Ireland with Energia, Statkraft and Power Capital.
Through these agreements, Microsoft will support the development of over 900MW of onshore wind and solar renewable energy in Ireland and contribute close to 30% of Ireland’s corporate power purchase target by 2030.
Welcoming the announcement, Garret Farrelly said:
“We were delighted to advise Microsoft on these deals and to support them in working to realise their ambitious renewable energy targets. These corporate PPAs represent some of the most significant corporate buyer investments in Ireland to date, helping to bring more wind and solar onto the Irish electricity system, to improve the carbon intensity of the Irish electricity system and to reduce wholesale electricity prices – all of this at no cost to the Irish electricity customer.”
Matheson continues to see significant activity in the corporate PPA market in Ireland as companies look to decarbonise their operations and renewable developers explore alternative routes to market. Matheson has a market-leading energy team and has advised on the vast majority of corporate PPAs announced in the Irish market.
