Matheson was delighted to once again sponsor the American Chamber of Commerce Southern Conference and Presidents Dinner 2019 which took place in Cork on Thursday, 26 September 2019.

The Southern Conference ran throughout the morning in Devere Hall, University College Cork and featured three panel discussions on the topics of innovation, collaboration and the Southern Region.

Corporate partner Pat English took part in the panel discussion entitled ‘Opportunities for the Southern Region’. Commenting at the event, Pat said;

“The Southern Region is home to a diverse range of international companies and entrepreneurial indigenous success stories. This success is driven by several factors such as a skilled workforce, close links to leading academic institutions, good connectivity and a positive business environment’’.

Following the conference, the Presidents Dinner took place in the Maryborough Hotel Cork. Partner and Cork Office Lead Gráinne Callanan delivered a speech on the continued growth and success in Cork and the Southern Region, and its offering for businesses. Gráinne commented;

‘‘At Matheson, we believe in Cork and the Southern Region. We see the existing and emerging opportunities for the local economy, indigenous businesses and community, combined with the attractiveness of the region for international businesses looking to establish in Ireland’’.

At the Presidents Dinner, the American Chamber presented the ‘Cairdeas’ (Friendship) Award honouring an individual organisation for its impact on the community and the Créafóg (Earth) Award to a member of the Chamber demonstrating excellence in sustainability. Congratulations goes to I Wish which has been named the winner of the ‘Cairdeas’ Award and to PepsiCo for winning the Créafóg Award.

Responding to the increasing demand for legal services from the firm’s multinational and domestic clients located in Munster, Matheson opened its Cork office 12 months ago and is seeing first–hand the opportunity offered by the Southern Region. The firm continues to grow its Cork presence with data privacy and employment law specialist Deirdre Crowley and her team recently joining Matheson’s Cork office.
