Tara Grattan has been announced by Matheson as the winner of the 2025 Tim Scanlon Corporate Law Bursary. Now in its fourth year, the annual bursary honours the memory of late Matheson partner, Tim Scanlon and is delivered as part of Matheson's Impactful Business Programme. It is open to undergraduate and postgraduate law students.
The call for entries launched earlier this year and asked for applicants to submit an essay focused on: “The impact of Brexit on corporate regulation in Ireland - Discuss how Irelands corporate regulatory landscape has been affected by the UK’s departure from the EU.”
Currently a third year Law with Irish student in University College Dublin (UCD), Tara has been awarded a place on Matheson's Summer Internship Programme, a €5,000 bursary; and, in appreciation of Tim Scanlon's love for the arts, a piece of art by Irish artist Niamh Flanagan. Tara’s insightful and well-researched entry demonstrated a clear understanding of the relevant issues and the impact of Brexit on Irish businesses.
Michael Jackson, Managing Partner of Matheson, commented: “Congratulations to Tara, whose essay was a worthy winner of this year’s Tim Scanlon Corporate Law Bursary. We are proud to honour Tim’s legacy, through this annual scholarship, which challenges students to express their innovative thinking by applying critical analysis to their legal and academic knowledge. At Matheson, we recognise the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for future talent and supporting that talent in achieving its potential.”
Tara Grattan, Tim Scanlon 2025 Bursary winner said: "Winning this scholarship in honour of Tim Scanlon has been genuinely transformative for me. At such a pivotal stage in my legal journey, it has not only opened doors but also renewed my confidence in what’s possible. It speaks volumes about Matheson, not just as a law firm, but as a place that meaningfully supports and invests in the next generation, and I am incredibly grateful".
