Matheson’s Asset Management and Investment Funds Department has reinforced its position as Ireland’s pre-eminent funds law practice, advising 37.5% of all Investment Limited Partnerships (ILPs), 31% of Article 9 SFDR funds, and over 20% of Article 8 SFDR funds — the highest market share of any Irish law firm in each category, according to the Monterey Insight Ireland Fund Report 2025.
These figures cement Matheson’s leadership at the forefront of Ireland’s most strategically significant fund structures. The firm’s dominance across ILP and SFDR mandates reflects both the depth of its expertise and the confidence that international asset managers place in Matheson when establishing and advising funds in Ireland.
Further underscoring this market leadership, the 2025 report has ranked Matheson as Ireland’s leading funds practice by assets under management for the 15th consecutive year. The report confirms Matheson holds a 28% market share for Irish domiciled funds by AUM and 27% for combined domiciled and non-domiciled funds — with total assets advised exceeding US$1.6 trillion, representing year-on-year growth of approximately US$288 billion, or 21%.
Commenting on the firm’s position, Tara Doyle, Partner and Head of Matheson’s Asset Management and Investment Funds Department, said:
“Matheson’s leadership across ILP and SFDR fund structures — advising 37.5% of all ILPs, 31% of Article 9 SFDR funds, and over 20% of Article 8 SFDR funds — reflects the trust that the world’s leading asset managers place in our team. These metrics, taken together with our 15th consecutive year as Ireland’s top law firm by assets under management, demonstrate the sustained investment we have made in our people and our practice. We are proud to lead not only in scale, but in areas of fund structuring and sustainable finance that are strategically significant for our clients today.
We are also encouraged to see the Irish funds industry maintaining its upward momentum, with total assets in Irish-domiciled funds growing by 22% in US dollar terms and the number of Irish-domiciled funds rising by 4%.”
