The EU Accessibility Act (EEA) and the related Irish Statutory Instrument impose EU-wide standards to ensure digital interfaces, including websites, are accessible to people with disabilities. In Ireland, from 28 June 2025, there will be significant potential penalties for non-compliance with the EEA. While many organisations already comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as a matter of best practice, the EEA brings in new requirements and a new need for legal support and risk management.
