Matheson has been honoured with two accolades at this year’s Public Sector Magazine Excellence in Business Awards: Excellence in Legal Services and Excellence in Public Energy Support Services Award – Top Energy Team. This marks a historic milestone for the firm as the Excellence in Legal Services award also commemorates Matheson’s 200 years in business, which the firm celebrated in 2025. The Energy Team award is presented to Matheson for the second consecutive year, underscoring the firm’s leadership in energy advisory.
Two Centuries of Legal Excellence
The Excellence in Legal Services honour recognises Matheson’s 200-year journey and enduring commitment to delivering exceptional legal services. Client relationships have always been central to Matheson’s operations, with a focus on building long-term relationships and a deep understanding of how clients’ businesses operate. This commitment informs the firm’s Client Service Charter, which emphasises a seamless, integrated client experience. The firm continues to be ranked as a Top Tier practice across Legal 500, Chambers & Partners Europe and Global and IFLR 1000, and has advised on some of the most significant transactions in the Irish market in recent years. Matheson continues to invest in building a diverse and inclusive workforce through a range of initiatives designed to support talent development and career progression at all levels.
Top Energy Team – A Second Consecutive Win
Matheson has now secured this award for the second consecutive year. The firm’s Energy, Infrastructure and Construction (“EIC”) Group is the largest dedicated practice of its kind in the Irish market and advises on the development, operation, financing, acquisition, disposal, and regulatory aspects of all large-scale energy, infrastructure and construction projects in and from Ireland. Combining deep sectoral knowledge and a highly commercial, solutions-driven approach, the EIC Group is consistently mandated on the most complex and high-profile domestic and cross-border transactions and works closely with the firm’s M&A, finance, real estate, regulatory planning and environmental, competition and litigation teams to provide a coordinated advice across all phases of a project.
Commenting on the awards, Darren Maher, Managing Partner, Matheson, said: “This double recognition reflects the depth of expertise and commitment across our firm. As we step into our third century, we remain focused on evolving alongside our clients. We continue to build on our innovative work in areas such as energy and infrastructure, and to deliver the forward-thinking legal advice that will be critical in the years ahead. We thank our clients for their partnership and our colleagues for their outstanding commitment.”
