Mary Liz is a partner in Matheson’s Energy, Infrastructure and Construction Group.
She has over 15 years experience acting for stakeholders in resolving challenges and mitigating risks through the full life cycle of construction projects.
Mary Liz acts on complex transactional matters across sectors including office and commercial development, residential, industrial, retail and leisure. She is also known for her advice on claims management and dispute resolution with experience in all forums of dispute resolution including negotiation, adjudication, conciliation, mediation, multi-party high court proceedings and arbitration.
Mary Liz is co-lecturer of the Law Society Construction Law Masterclass and the Law Society PPC Construction Law Elective, and is a member and former chairperson of the Society of Construction Law Astra Committee (Dublin Branch).
Experience and Education
- Acting for developers, landlords and tenants on the delivery of prime office development projects including drafting and negotiation of significant fit out contracts.
- Advising on multiple high profile projects in the industrial space including data centres, logistic hubs, pharmaceutical operations and self-storage facilities.
- Advising developers on the design and construction of residential schemes across a range of products – BTR / BTS/ Co-Living/ Student Accommodation/ Senior Living.
- Advising institutional banks (both Irish and international) and private credit lenders in relation to the financing of Irish residential and commercial developments.
- Advising plaintiffs, defendants and insurers in respect of significant building defects claims (including fire) in both the residential, leisure and office sectors.
- Advising on a number of multi-million euro statutory adjudications under the Construction Contracts Act.
