Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity is a core value at Matheson and building a diverse and inclusive workplace where all personnel thrive is a key strategic business priority for the firm.

Former Matheson Partner Cara O ’ Hagan

We are committed to embedding diversity and inclusion (“D&I”)  into everything we do. This is our Cara Commitment. Our Diversity and Inclusion Commitment honours the memory of our former colleague and friend, Cara O’Hagan. Cara was a mentor and role model who spearheaded many of the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives. It is only fitting that our commitment honours her and continues to build on the important work she started.

We believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace.  This is why our six Diversity and Inclusion Committees include representatives from across the firm who champion diversity and drive our Cara Commitment.

Our Cara Commitment is to:

  • attract, engage, develop and empower diverse talent;
  • build diverse and inclusive teams that deliver innovative solutions to our clients and for our business;
  • further embed our core values of Partnership, Respect, Innovation, Diversity and Entrepreneurship into our culture;
  • partner with our clients and community to contribute to wider diversity and inclusion initiatives; and
  • be an inclusive workplace where all Matheson employees feel that they belong.

Matheson has also underlined its commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion by:

  • Becoming a signatory to the Women in Finance Charter;
  • Becoming a signatory to the Law Society of Ireland’s Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion ( “ GEDI ” ) Charter;
  • Co-founding the Outlaw network (the legal sector LGBTQ+ network);
  • Becoming a signatory to the disAbility Legal Network Charter (the legal sector’s disability network)
  • Ongoing sponsorship of the ‘Outstanding D & I Initiative’ at Ireland’s annual National Diversity & Inclusion Awards.

In recognition of our people-focussed D&I strategy and practices, the Irish Centre for Diversity has awarded Matheson its prestigious Investors in Diversity Gold accreditation.

Matheson was the first organisation in Ireland, across all sectors, to receive this award, and to have been reaccredited twice. Matheson remains the only law firm in Ireland to hold this accreditation.
