Undergraduate law students Ivie Oronsaye from Maynooth University, Elena Postica from Dublin City University, and Jude Pierse from Trinity College Dublin, have won the inaugural Matheson University Challenge held at Matheson's Dublin office on Wednesday, 22 March 2023.

The competition encouraged Irish university students to explore the numerous opportunities for law firms to innovate and transform in the future, and was designed to identify students who strive to achieve purpose and deliver change for Ireland's future legal landscape.

The Matheson University Challenge invited students from different universities to submit a four minute video as a team, identifying an innovative and transformative opportunity and outlining the benefits to Matheson as well as the firm's future talent pool.  From over 300 entries, a shortlist of five teams were invited to present their proposal to a panel of Matheson judges comprising Nicola White, Director of Learning and Development; partner Maireadh Dale; partner Cillian O'Boyle; and Kyle Gribben, Head of the Digital Services Group.

The winning team of Ivie Oronsaye from Maynooth University, Elena Postica from Dublin City University, and Jude Pierse from Trinity College Dublin, were awarded a place on Matheson's summer internship programme, in addition to a cash prize of €5,000.

Commenting, Director of Learning and Development, Nicola White, said:

"At Matheson, we strive to make a meaningful contribution to our community - our clients, our people and our society.  The way we deliver on this is empowering our people and future talent to recognise the fundamental role they play in shaping the future of Matheson and the legal industry in Ireland.  The pitches were of superior quality and it was a privilege to see our future through the eyes of such exceptional talent."
