Matheson Supports Dublin International Disputes Week 2025

Date: 10/09/2025

High-profile speakers to address global challenges and innovations in dispute resolution and arbitration

Matheson is delighted to support Dublin International Disputes Week 2025, which will take place from 20 – 24 October.  A series of events, including a two-day conference attended by over 300 members of the Irish and international legal community, will address the emerging challenges and innovations in global dispute resolution, arbitration, and legal practice.

Dublin International Disputes Week (DIDW), now in its fourth year, celebrates Dublin as a leading centre for handling the resolution of international disputes - whatever the sector or form of dispute resolution.  It brings together members of the Irish and international legal communities, including Irish and international law firm partners, members of the Bar from several jurisdictions, and other influential figures from the global legal landscape.

An initiative of Ireland for Law, it provides an opportunity to network and gain insights in key areas such as dispute resolution, restructuring and insolvency, arbitration, and more.  The annual conference gives attendees access to thought leaders and prominent international practitioners specialising in litigating complex, cross-border disputes.

The conference will open with a conversation with former Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern and other voices who were involved in the historic negotiations around the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, chaired by former RTÉ journalist, Eileen Dunne.  They will examine the lessons from that peace process and discuss their relevance to international dispute resolution today.

The Hon Mr. Justice David Barniville, President of the High Court, will chair a judicial panel exploring ‘The Importance of the Rule of Law and a Robust Legal System for Business and Economic Development’, which will include insights from Mr. Justice Donal O'Donnell, Chief Justice of Ireland and Dame Siobhan Keegan, Lady Chief Justice of Northern Ireland.

Another key highlight of the week will be a special address at the Gala Dinner from award-winning broadcaster and Channel 4 News anchor, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, who will bring a global media perspective to legal and geopolitical developments.

Other speakers include: Jim O’Callaghan, TD, Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration; Rossa Fanning SC, Attorney General of Ireland;  Richard Turney KC, Landmark Chambers; Katie Chandler, Taylor Wessing; Hon. Mr. Justice Liam Kennedy; Davi Pere, Addleshaw Goddard Paris; Lucy Pert, Co-Head of Commercial Disputes, Hausfeld; Kyle Gribben, Head of Digital Services Group, Matheson; Jason Kravitz, Nixon Peabody; and Jorg Bielefeld, Addleshaw Goddard, Frankfurt.

Angela Brennan, Disputes and Investigations partner at Matheson LLP and Ogier partner, Stephen O’Connor, who are Co-Chairs of the DIDW Steering group commented: “We are delighted to welcome delegates from around the world to Dublin International Disputes Week 2025.  Now in its fourth year, DIDW continues to grow as a platform for global dialogue on the evolving landscape of dispute resolution.  With contributions from world-renowned legal minds, senior members of the judiciary, and leading commentators like Bertie Ahern and Krishnan Guru-Murthy, this year’s programme reflects both the calibre and diversity of thought that DIDW represents. Ireland has a unique role in global legal services, and DIDW is a key part of showcasing that to the world.”
