She provides prompt and practical advice to domestic and international clients, in both the public and private sectors, in relation to a variety of contentious and non-contentious employment law and industrial relations issues.
Ailbhe is exceptionally highly regarded in the market and is known for her technical excellence as well as her commercial pragmatism.
Areas of Expertise
Ailbhe specialises in guiding employers through crisis and change management situations, ranging from the conduct of complex collective redundancy and TUPE consultation scenarios, disciplinary and grievance processes and investigations into allegations of bullying, harassment and whistleblowing, to complicated and sensitive dismissals.
Ailbhe has acted on numerous high profile transactions and has extensive experience providing strategic and pragmatic advice in the context of corporate transactions, restructurings and post-acquisition harmonisation projects.
She also has considerable experience acting for clients in complex employment litigation before the WRC, the Labour Court and the civil courts, including defence of a wide range of employment law claims connected to working time, payment of wages, unfair dismissals, equality, and whistleblowing.
Ailbhe is particularly experienced in the field of High Court injunctive relief, both in pursuit of employees (breach of post-termination restrictive covenants or theft of confidential information) in addition to defence of employers (alleged breach of internal fair procedures in the context of disciplinary or dismissal proceedings).
Ailbhe frequently lectures on current employment law issues and contributes to employment law publications and media articles in addition to podcasts on a wide variety of novel employment law matters including Gender Pay Gap reporting, Pay Transparency obligations and mandatory retirement ages.
Experience and Education
- Successfully resolving a High Court injunction application by a client’s former employee in respect of alleged breach of fair procedures in an investigation and disciplinary procedure context;
- Successfully mediating a multi-million euro settlement in favour of a household name logistics client in the context of a former employee’s breach of post-termination restrictive covenants;
- Successfully securing High Court injunctive relief against a client’s former employee in the context of the alleged theft and misuse of a client’s confidential information;
- Successfully securing High Court injunctive relief against a client’s former employee in the context of breach of post-termination restrictive covenants (i.e. breach of non-compete and non-solicit obligations);
- Advising a well-known five star hotel in relation to a multitude of employment law issues including the successful exit of a senior member of management at limited cost to the business (i.e, zero ex gratia termination payment);
- Advising multiple clients in the context of conducting complex disciplinary and grievance procedures, including in relation to allegations of bullying and harassment and whistleblowing;
- Advising several aviation leasing / finance companies in relation to a number of complex employment-law matters, including the drafting and negotiation of comprehensive employment agreements, post-termination restrictive covenants and variable remuneration packages for very senior executives;
- Advising on the due diligence aspects of the sale or purchase of business entities (including where such involves regulated financial services providers, in both share purchase and asset purchase scenarios);
- Advising clients in the defence of employee claims connected to payment of wages, unfair dismissal, working time, transfer regulations, equality etc.;
- Advising various multinational companies on the implementation of remote working / hybrid working arrangements, right to disconnect policies and the implementation of the legislation relevant to the right to request flexible working legislation against a return to office backdrop;
- Advising numerous multinational companies in the context of implementing collective redundancy projects across multiple jurisdictions;
- Advising numerous regulated financial service providers in drafting comprehensive and robust contracts of employment (including but not limited to fixed-term contracts) for senior hires (including at CF and PCF level) to ensure compliance (both at the outset and on an ongoing basis) with the fitness and probity regime requirements;
- Advising an insurance undertaking in connection with the complex rescinding of an offer of employment to a PCF hire during the conduct of the CBI pre-approval process;
- Advising an insurance undertaking in relation to the preparation of a suite of contractual documentation to implement a complicated intra group secondment arrangement for a PCF providing the relevant services in a multi-jurisdictional context requiring pre-approval of the CBI and other appropriate regulators; and
- Advising a regulated financial services provider in the context of a winding up of its business in Ireland to include implementing a redundancy exercise of controlled function employees.

Ailbhe has also been a tutor and examiner on employment law on the Law Society’s solicitor training course. She has also contributed to the World Bank’s “Women Business and the Law (WBL) 2026 report/publication on identifying legal and policy barriers to women’s economic participation.
She is a member of the Employment Law Association of Ireland (ELAI), the Employment Committee of the Dublin Solicitor Bar Association (DSBA), the European Employment Lawyer’s Association (EELA) and the UK Employment Lawyers Association (ELA).
