Eunan is partner in the Asset Management Department at Matheson.
He practices financial services law and advises many of the world’s leading financial institutions, investment banks and asset management companies carrying on business through Irish fund vehicles (ICAVs, investment companies, unit trusts, CCFs and ILPs) and Irish domiciled management companies.
Eunan has extensive experience in advising on UCITS and other liquid-fund structures cross the full range of strategies, including plain vanilla strategies, hedge fund strategies, structured UCITS, fund of funds, money market funds and ETFs (both passive and active strategies) and on their ongoing servicing.
Eunan also advises private asset managers (private equity, private credit and infrastructure) on the establishment and ongoing operation of their Irish funds structures. As part of this Eunan has extensive experience in advising on AIFMD and regularly advised managers on the marketing of investment funds in both Ireland and other jurisdictions.
Eunan also advises fund service providers on their regulatory and compliance matters. Eunan also has extensive experience of advising on the establishment and authorisation of UCITS management companies and alternative investment fund managers in Ireland.
Eunan’s experience includes advising managers on the ever-evolving European regulatory framework including, in particular, sustainable finance.
Eunan has completed a secondment with one of the world’s largest asset managers in London.
Eunan is a member of the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee.
Experience and Education
Eunan’s experience includes:
- advising on corporate transactions involving the purchase of fund management companies;
- obtaining approval from the Central Bank of Ireland for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to added to the list of eligible issuers for Irish UCITS;
- advised several international managers on the establishment of their management companies in Ireland, including advising in relation to the establishment of “Super ManCo” entities;
- advised both UCITS management companies and AIFMs on their passporting applications to be appointed as the management company to other EU domiciled investment funds;
- advised on the cross-border aspects of Irish domiciled investment and other EEA domiciled funds marketing and entering both European and non-European markets;
- advising on the establishment and operation of major ETF platforms;
- advising on the establishment of AIFMD-compliant qualifying investor alternative investment funds, including loan origination and private credit funds; and
- advising on the re-domicle of Cayman Islands funds to Ireland.
