Matthew Broadstock is a partner in the Tax practice of Matheson, where he heads the Indirect Taxes group, specialising in cutting-edge VAT developments at both Irish and EU levels as well as advising on Customs and Excise matters, and Relevant Contracts Tax.
Matthew is a member of the Law Society Taxation Committee and is Chair of the Indirect Tax TALC Consultative Committee on behalf of the Law Society during 2025. Matthew plays a pivotal role in shaping Ireland’s indirect tax dialogue with the Revenue Commissioners.

- spearheading VAT strategies for IP and asset transfers in major onshoring initiatives and providing comprehensive VAT due diligence for high-value M&A transactions; and
- providing detailed VAT analyses of the nature of supplies being made by leading technology companies.
FinTech & Digital Innovation
- pioneering EU VAT analysis for innovative FinTech products and services establishing in the European market; and
- coordinating pan-European VAT adviser networks for complex historic liability disclosure projects.
Customs and Excise
- securing specialised licences and authorisations for mineral oil storage, alcohol production, storage and distribution; and
- Leading Customs Duty rate analysis and tariff classification determinations.
Real Estate & Infrastructure
- Delivering comprehensive VAT and RCT strategies for office space development, data centre construction, and industrial facility projects; and
- Providing technical expertise and due diligence for large-scale property portfolio acquisitions.
