Our Team

Fergus Bolster is a partner in the firm’s Corporate M&A Group, where he advises on mergers and acquisitions, capital markets transactions, corporate restructurings and reorganisations (including corporate re-domiciliation and demerger transactions), financings and investments and corporate governance.
Fergus represents public and private companies, financial sponsors, State bodies and investment banks, transacting in a variety of industries and sectors, including technology, energy and healthcare. He has led the Matheson teams advising on some of the largest and most-complex public and private M&A, capital markets, corporate restructuring and inbound and outbound re-domiciliation transactions of recent years in the Irish market.

George is a partner in the firm’s Corporate M&A Group. In over 25 years of practice, he has advised on many of the most significant and complex Irish corporate transactions across a range of industry sectors.
George is listed as a leading corporate lawyer across a range of publications including IFLR1000, Chambers Europe and The Legal 500.
George’s representative M&A transactions include many of the most significant takeovers including; Independent News & Media / Mediahuis; IFG / Epiris; Allergan / Actavis ($66 billion); Medtronic / Covidien ($42.9 billion); Actavis / Warner Chilcott ($8.5 billion);
George also acts for a range of Private Equity institutions across a range of industry sectors, in particular Energy, Infrastructure and Telecoms.
George previously worked in the London office of a leading international law firm and has been a partner in Matheson since 2003.

Gráinne Boyle is a partner in the firm’s International Business Group. She practices Irish corporate law, with a primary focus on advising US and other international clients establishing operations, and doing business in and from Ireland.
Gráinne provides advice in relation to inward investment projects, providing insights on the Irish legal considerations associated with establishing operations and headquarters in Ireland.
She also provides ongoing corporate governance advice in connection with the day-to-day operation of Irish businesses. As part of this role, Gráinne acts as an external board advisor, and provides strategic advice on best corporate governance practices.
Susan Carroll Chrysostomou
Partner

Susan is a partner in Matheson’s Corporate M&A Group, with a particular focus on public company transactional, advisory and corporate governance matters.
Susan advises clients on public M&A, redomiciliations and equity capital markets transactions, having particular expertise in advising US and other international clients on cross-border acquisitions of Irish companies, migrations, capital raisings and equity capital markets transactions (undertaken domestically and by Irish companies listed on US and other foreign exchanges).

Emma practises corporate law and regularly spends time in the US with her clients. She works with international companies on the establishment, expansion and operation of their businesses in Ireland.
Emma also advises clients on the complex legal issues that can arise on international transactions involving Irish subsidiaries of foreign companies, including advising on a broad range of corporate reorganisations. She regularly leads group-wide multi-jurisdictional international restructuring projects.

Pat English is a Partner in the Corporate Department at Matheson. He is head of the firm’s market-leading International Business Group and co-head of the Firm’s US Business and Inward Investment Groups.
Pat is a highly experienced corporate lawyer focusing primarily on advising overseas clients on establishing operations and doing business in and from Ireland.

David is a partner and Head of the Firm’s Corporate M&A Group and the Corporate Department.
He has extensive experience assisting clients across a range of industries on doing business in and from Ireland, including advising on acquisitions/disposals, capital raisings, corporate migrations, cross-border mergers, joint ventures and reorganisations. David has significant experience advising on take-private transactions and has advised on many of Ireland’s most notable transactions.
He has worked with a wide range of domestic and international corporations providing ongoing strategic advice to their boards. He has a broad-based practice reflecting his considerable experience across the agri-food, financial services, healthcare / life sciences and manufacturing sectors.

David is a partner in the Corporate M&A Group, based in Matheson’s New York office.
David advises on a broad range of public and private company transactions, specialising in equity capital markets deals, public company M&A (hostile and recommended offers), group reorganisations and corporate redomiciliations.
He also advises corporate and individual clients on European securities law, Irish and UK Listing Rules and the Irish Takeover Rules, as well as Irish company law.

Susanne is a partner in Matheson’s Corporate Group specialising in corporate advisory matters and equity capital markets transactions.
Susanne has particular expertise in corporate governance and compliance matters and in securities regulation under the Market Abuse Regulation and the Transparency and Prospectus regimes, the Irish Listing Rules and the Irish Takeover Rules.

Kieran Trant is an experienced corporate partner and a member of the US Business and Inward Investment Groups at Matheson, where he serves as a trusted advisor to many of the world’s most prominent multinational companies.
Kieran has built a distinguished practice advising major international companies on the establishment, expansion and ongoing operation of their businesses in Ireland. He is recognised for his ability to navigate the complex legal and commercial challenges that arise in high-stakes international transactions involving Irish subsidiaries, including advising on complex cross border corporate reorganisations.
As standing Irish corporate counsel to a deep portfolio of multinational clients, Kieran provides day-to-day strategic guidance on a broad range of corporate governance, compliance and general commercial matters, including directors’ duties, distributions and complex cash repatriation strategies. His clients value his experience, commercial acumen, responsiveness and ability to deliver tailored, pragmatic solutions.
Kieran is a regular visitor to the United States, having previously been seconded to Matheson’s Palo Alto and San Francisco offices. He maintains close relationships with clients on the US West Coat and other major US business centres, reinforcing his role as a key bridge between US multinationals and their Irish operations.
Kieran is also client relationship partner for a number of the firm’s key clients in the technology sector and leads collaborative multidisciplinary teams that advise these clients on critical Irish legal matters.

Tomás advises Irish and international corporations doing business in and from Ireland on all aspects of corporate taxation.
He primarily advises on corporate acquisitions, reorganisations, tax structuring for inbound and outbound investment, and tax controversy. Tomás also frequently advises on Irish stamp duty matters particularly in the context of global corporate transactions.
Tomás regularly publishes articles and chapters in leading tax publications on international and domestic tax matters. He is a qualified solicitor and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA).

Joe Duffy is a partner in the tax group at Matheson.
Joe has 20 years’ experience in corporate tax law and advises on international restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, tax controversy and transfer pricing. Joe’s clients include many of the leading multinational corporations established in Ireland, primarily in the pharmaceutical, technology, industrial and service sectors.
Joe speaks regularly on international tax matters in Ireland and abroad. He has also written extensively on international tax matters.

Philip is a partner in the Tax Department at Matheson. Philip advises multinational corporations doing business in and from Ireland on all aspects of corporate tax. He advises on corporate reorganisations, inward investment projects and cross-border tax transactions as well as transfer pricing matters and tax disputes.
Philip is a member of the Irish Taxation Institute, the Law Society of Ireland and the International Bar Association (IBA) and is a regular participant on international tax panels organised by the IBA and the American Bar Association (ABA). Philip is Contributing Editor of the ‘Doing Business In..’ guide published by Chambers. Philip has served as the national reporter for Ireland for the Taxes Committee of the IBA and has acted as Branch Reporter for the Cahiers prepared by the International Fiscal Association (IFA).
