Kieran Trant is an experienced corporate partner and a member of the US Business and Inward Investment Groups at Matheson, where he serves as a trusted advisor to many of the world’s most prominent multinational companies.

Kieran has built a distinguished practice advising major international companies on the establishment, expansion and ongoing operation of their businesses in Ireland. He is recognised for his ability to navigate the complex legal and commercial challenges that arise in high-stakes international transactions involving Irish subsidiaries, including advising on complex cross border corporate reorganisations.

As standing Irish corporate counsel to a deep portfolio of multinational clients, Kieran provides day-to-day strategic guidance on a broad range of corporate governance, compliance and general commercial matters, including directors’ duties, distributions and complex cash repatriation strategies. His clients value his experience, commercial acumen, responsiveness and ability to deliver tailored, pragmatic solutions.

Kieran is a regular visitor to the United States, having previously been seconded to Matheson’s Palo Alto and San Francisco offices. He maintains close relationships with clients on the US West Coat and other major US business centres, reinforcing his role as a key bridge between US multinationals and their Irish operations.

Kieran is also client relationship partner for a number of the firm’s key clients in the technology sector and leads collaborative multidisciplinary teams that advise these clients on critical Irish legal matters.

Experience and Education

Kieran’s experience includes:

  • Acting as standing Irish corporate counsel and trusted advisor to a significant number of leading international companies across the technology, life sciences and other industry sectors.
  • Advising on some of the largest and most strategically significant corporate establishment and expansion projects undertaken in Ireland by international companies.
  • Leading the Irish legal workstreams on complex, multi-billion-dollar international restructurings for numerous Fortune 100 US multinationals, encompassing IP and business reorganisations, pre- and post-acquisition integrations, consolidation and rationalisation programmes, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, supply chain restructurings, spin-off, carve-out and separation transactions, and cash and dividend repatriation strategies.
  • Directing and coordinating significant and complex multi-jurisdictional reorganisation projects for US headquatered clients, working seamlessly with international counsel teams to deliver integrated, commercially driven outcomes for clients.
