The EU’s approach to anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism measures (AML/CFT) is undergoing its most fundamental change since the first EU AML Directive was adopted over three decades ago.
The new AML/CFT package will enter into force on 10 July 2027 and will create amongst others, a single EU rulebook for AML/CFT processes, establish a new central supervisory authority, and strengthen the institutional framework for financial intelligence cooperation across the Union.
The EU Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) assumed the EBA’s AML/CFT supervisory mandate on 31 December 2025 and is now the central body responsible for developing the substantial programme of regulatory and implementing technical standards (RTS and ITS respectively) that will give the new legal framework its operational content. Many of these have been consulted on, but not all have been fully finalised. We intend to give the latest update on this aspect of the AML/CFT package.
The webinar will cover:
▪ the four legislative pillars of the EU AML/CFT Package and their respective application timelines;
▪ the key changes to AML/CFT obligations for obliged entities under the EU Single Rulebook;
▪ AMLA’s supervisory powers, direct supervision regime, and the current state of play on the evolving RTS and ITS programme; and
▪ the implications for obliged entities including Irish-regulated firms and practical next steps.
