Matheson is pleased to announce the appointment of partner, Gerry Thornton, as Head of Tax. He will lead Matheson’s market-leading tax practice, the largest of any Irish law firm. He succeeds Shane Hogan, who was recently appointed as Managing Partner of the firm.
Gerry has been a partner in Matheson’s Tax Department since 2011. He advises on all aspects of corporate tax, and his practice includes fund formation, acquisitions, disposals, leasing and tax disputes. Gerry advises many leading private fund managers and sponsors, financial institutions and multinational corporations.
Gerry is one of Ireland’s leading tax lawyers and has played a central role in the continued growth and development of Matheson’s tax practice. He is actively involved in shaping Ireland’s financial services industry, serving on the tax steering committee of Irish Funds, having chaired its international tax working group for many years. He has also contributed extensively to consultations on key legislative developments affecting Ireland’s financial services sector.

Gerry holds a law degree from Trinity College Dublin and is a member of the Law Society of Ireland and the Irish Taxation Institute.
